Announcement of game apps for smartphones that can contribute to early detection of glaucoma. Early detection prevents blindness
Sendai Broadcasting announced on August 3 the game application for smartphones that contribute to the early detection of glaucoma, Meteor Blaster . A browser game for iOS/Android is currently being released as a trial version.
METEOR BLASTER is a shooting game for smartphones set in outer space. With a total of 5 minutes, one eye can make a simple judgment of the user's field of view. It is said that it can confirm the view of the field of view as a short and simple operation game and contribute to the early detection of glaucoma.
The player crushes a meteorite approaching the center of the screen with a beam gun from a first-person perspective. The operation is simple, and when a meteorite enters the center aim, press the SHOOT button at the bottom right to defeat it. Occasionally, the ball of light that appears at the bottom is captured by the Capture button at the lower left. In addition, when playing, it is necessary to be about 30cm away from the screen and do one eye at a time. It seems that the view of the field of view can be simply measured through the play of about 5 minutes per eye. The measurement results can be used as a judgment material for consulting a specialist.
This work is created by the joint development of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and Sendai Broadcasting. A patent in Japan has been obtained, and further enhancements will be made from the perspective of promoting eye health by e-sports. It is said that social implementation will be promoted in cooperation with various industries, organizations, and companies.
Glaucoma is a disease in which the optic nerve is impaired due to intraocular pressure, the visual field is narrowed, and the visual acuity is ultimately reduced (the Japanese Ophthalmology Association). It is said that there are more than 10%of patients for those over 40 and more than 10%for those aged 60 or older. At present, it is the most common cause of blindness in Japan. On the other hand, if it is discovered early and treated properly, it is said that it can maintain a lifetime vision and vision.
However, most patients have no subjective symptoms in the early days of glaucoma. By the time you go to the hospital due to an abnormal field of view, the condition is often advanced. METEOR BLASTER evaluates the reaction to the object displayed on the outside of the screen when the user is watching the center of the screen. It is possible to obtain evaluation information about the field of view more easily and more accurately than before. By checking the state of the field of view, it can contribute to the early detection of glaucoma.
This work is currently being distributed on the official website that can be played on a browser. A total of four stages are recorded, two stages per eye. It can be played in Safari or Safari or Android 8.0 or later.
